NILES, Ohio (WKBN) -- The Niles community came together on Saturday to help a local teen with a brain tumor.
A spaghetti dinner was held for 15-year-old Chase Miller at First United Methodist Church. The event raised money so his sister and stepfather can go with him on a Make-A-Wish trip.
The organizers were only expecting 300 people but had to keep buying more food supplies as they kept selling out.
Chase's mom, Bobbi Jo Boyd, said medical treatment through Akron Children's Hospital has gotten out as much of the tumor as they could.
"The tumor is connected to the optic nerve, in the main artery that supplies blood to the brain. Those are gray areas. If they would've touched those, it could've affected his memory or his vision," Boyd said.
"When we got the news that there was growth, I knew I wanted to do everything possible so the family didn't have to worry," said Chase's cousin Madilyn Busse.
Chase is still going through medical treatment every two weeks to slow the tumor's progression.
