Amber Portwood Says She's Being Prevented From Seeing Her Daughter, Leah Shirley

Amber Portwood took a serious social media hiatus after Gary Wayt disappeared in an effort to end their engagement. Now, though, she's back and can't seem to stay away. Amber has spent several days on TikTok, hosting live events and answering questions while also filming Teen Mom: The Next Chapter. During one such live, Portwood opened up about where she stands with her daughter, Leah Shirley, and Leah's father, Gary Shirley. Apparently, things are pretty tense. Portwood insists her ex is preventing her from spending time with her daughter.

Amber Portwood has found an outlet for her frustration in TikTok. She's spent several days going live and answering fan questions, and while she's under contract with MTV not to talk about certain things, she is sharing some juicy tidbits. During one of her lives, Portwood accused her ex-boyfriend of keeping her teenage daughter away from her. She claims she's called to pick up Leah several times but has had her ex block that interaction. She said Shirley claims she is not 'allowed" to interact with the teen.

Gary Shirley has told a different tale. The father of two has been mostly quiet on social media but has replied to a few commenters questioning how much time Portwood spends with their shared daughter. In one comment, Shirley said Portwood had not seen her daughter in several months.

Clearly, there is bad blood between the co-parents currently, but that wasn't always the case. For several years, the former couple had a cordial relationship. So, what changed? Earlier reports indicated that Gary Shirley and Portwood are arguing over child support, with rumors swirling he plans to take her to court over the situation. According to the Ashley Reality Roundup Group, Portwood addressed the allegation during one of her live events. She insists she pays her child support regularly but didn't say whether Shirley has threatened to get lawyers involved.

While Amber Portwood has focused her attention on Leah Shirley during her TikTok Live events, she's not the only child the reality TV personality has. Portwood is also the mother of a six-year-old son. Portwood's son, James Glennon, currently lives outside of Indiana.

Portwood welcomed her son, James, with Andrew Glennon in 2018. While the relationship seemed to move along without incident early on, that all changed in 2019. Portwood was arrested after attacking her then-boyfriend in the house they shared while he held their son. Glennon took custody of the then-toddler and has been his primary caregiver ever since. James and his father moved to California in 2022 to be closer to the Glennon family.
