ATLANTA - The Georgia State Patrol (GSP) is releasing more information from its investigation into the hit-and-run crash in Buckhead Friday night.
Information previously obtained by FOX 5 Atlanta showed that the incident happened in the 3300 block of Piedmont Road NE near Peachtree Road. One person was detained. No injuries had been reported at the time.
According to the GSP on Saturday, a gray Kia sedan was going 61 mph in a 35 mph zone on Roswell Road NE near Honor Avenue Friday night. A trooper tried to pull the driver over, but he or she refused to stop.
During the chase, the sedan smashed head-on into an Atlanta Police Department patrol vehicle that was traveling northbound on Piedmont Road NE, attempting to take a turn.
The driver and passengers of the sedan took off on foot toward a nearby parking garage. A state trooper behind the group and apprehended one of the suspects. The others appeared to have gotten away.
After identifying the detained suspect, who was determined not to be the driver, they were released.
The Atlanta police officer who was driving the patrol car was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment. That officer's current condition has not been released.
