Mizzou wrestling goes 1-2 at Journeymen Collegiate Duals

No. 16 Mizzou wrestling went 1-2 at the Journeymen Collegiate Duals on Sunday in Nashville, Tennessee. The Tigers (2-5) secured a victory over Binghamton but suffered losses to No. 20 Little Rock and No. 1 Penn State.

In match one of the day against Little Rock (7-1), the Tigers fell 24-19. Freshman Gage Walker kicked off the dual with a technical fall over Little Rock's Tyson Roach, giving the Tigers an early lead. At 141 pounds, junior Josh Edmond secured a takedown and back points in sudden victory, earning his seventh win of the season. The Trojans claimed three victories, taking a 12-8 lead at the halfway mark.

Senior Keegan O'Toole made his return to the mat with a ranked win by technical fall, putting the Tigers back on the scoreboard. Heavyweight Jarrett Stoner wrapped up the dual with a strong third-period takedown, securing his victory and ending the match on a high note.

In match two, the Tigers got back in the win column with a 19-15 dual win over Binghamton (1-4). The Tigers won five of the 10 matches in the dual, with bonus points in three of those victories making the difference.

At 125 pounds, Walker defeated Binghamton's 33rd-ranked Carson Wagner. Edmond continued the momentum at 141 pounds, securing his first bonus-point win of the day with a major decision. With the win, Mizzou moved to 3-0 all-time against Binghamton.

In the final dual of the night, the Tigers suffered a 41-3 loss to the defending National Champions, No. 1 Penn State. The Nittany Lions (6-0) won nine of the 10 matches and secured seven bonus-point victories.

Two-time national champion O'Toole secured a win over 2024 157-pound National Champion Levi Haines of Penn State. The win was the Tigers' first of the dual.

The Tigers next come home to host Cornell at the Beauty and the Beast event at 6 p.m. along with Gymnastics on Jan. 3 at the Hearnes Center.
