At 14-13 on the season, the Minnesota Timberwolves are 10th in the Western Conference standings. After reaching the Conference Finals last season, the team has slowed down and struggled after trading Karl-Anthony Towns over the offseason.
And it's all coming to a head for Anthony Edwards, whose frustrations this season are well documented. After a second-straight loss on the Timberwolves' home floor, he blasted NBA officials in a postgame rant with reporters.
"They're (expletive) terrible," Edwards said on Dec. 21. "All of them, besides the woman. But the other two dudes, terrible. Excuses as reasons they don't call a foul, the reason they don't call a foul. The (expletive) was terrible. They don't wanna talk back to my coach, talk back to me. I said one thing to the ref and he gave me a tech."
"(Expletive) told one of my teammates that if I would have said 'Y'all calling a bad foul' he wouldn't have gave me a tech," Edwards continued. "They're just sensitive and they're terrible. They penalize me and Ju (Randle) for being stronger than our opponent every night. We don't get no calls. So yeah, that's how I feel about the officials. Every game that we play."
Minnesota, after getting blown out by Towns and the New York Knicks on Dec. 19, gave up 13 points to Stephen Curry in the fourth quarter of a loss to the Golden State Warriors. Edwards finished the game with 19 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists on 6-of-20 shooting from the floor and 4-of-11 shooting from behind-the-arc.
With nearly a third of the 2024-2025 season in the rearview, Edwards' frustrations epitomize what's become of the Timberwolves season. Next, they travel to Georgia for a matchup with the Atlanta Hawks on Dec. 23. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 pm EST.
