SIOUX CITY -- In observance of the Christmas and New Year's Day holidays falling on Wednesdays this year, there will be delays in the collection of garbage, yard waste and recycling during the weeks of Dec. 23 and Dec. 30.
The adjusted schedule is as follows:

* Dec. 25 - No collection
* Dec. 26 - Wednesday collections
* Dec. 27 - Thursday collections
* Dec. 28 - Friday collections
* Jan. 1 - No collection
* Jan. 2 - Wednesday collection
* Jan. 3 - Thursday collection
* Jan. 4 - Friday collection

Residents are reminded that all items for curbside collection should fit inside the container with the lid closed. If additional capacity is needed, one-time use stickers for extra containers are available for purchase at City Hall, all major grocery stores and Wilmes Hardware on Hamilton Boulevard.
During the holiday season, the following items are acceptable for recycling:
* Acceptable: Wrapping paper, boxes and rigid plastics
* Not acceptable: Christmas lights, ribbons, bows and flexible plastic films
Residents are encouraged to recycle responsibly by avoiding contamination and placing only approved materials in their recycling bins.

The Citizen's Convenience Center, 5800 28th St., will be closed on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. Regular business hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. will resume on Dec. 26 and Jan. 2.
The L.P. Gill Landfill in Jackson, Neb., will close at noon on Dec. 24 and remain closed through Dec. 25. Regular hours will resume on Dec. 26. Additionally, the landfill will close at 3 p.m. on Dec. 31 and remain closed through Jan. 1. Normal operating hours will resume on Jan. 2.
